Most famous now for his role as Agatha Christie's Belgian super detective, Hercule Poirot, the Sandford St Martin's Trust award winner's actor portrayal is loved in more than 100 countries by an estimated 600-700 million viewers.

NIV publishers in the UK, Hodder Stoughton, say it is the first time a single British actor of this stature has taken on presenting the Bible's entire text as an audio recording. Speaking for the Biblica consortium who backed the NIV audio Bible project, Hodder Faith director Ian Metcalfee said: "I am delighted the whole thing came together. It is amazing, just having David Suchet is transformatory... It is a labour of love, and so much of a benefit to everyone".

The gifted actor has made a gift of his recording to Bible readers everywhere by donating his 200-hour recording fee to charity. The whole project is David's idea following a letter from a blind woman whose life had been transformed by his earlier recording of St John's gospel.
